Context
Recent media reports have shown municipal water coming directly from household taps with visible contamination, and residents reporting illness.
Past one year (Jan 2025 to Jan 2026) data shows over 5,500 reported illnesses, 3700+ hospitalizations, and 34 confirmed deaths, with lab-confirmed bacterial, sewage, and chemical contamination affecting 26+ cities, towns, and villages across 22 Indian states/UTs, including 16 state capitals.
While most households treat water before drinking—through RO systems, filtration, or boiling—no method can make water safe when contamination levels are extremely high.
This effort records whether municipal tap water looks and smells drinkable before any filtration or treatment.
Individual observations are subjective, but when many people report from the same area, patterns over time become visible.
Please share your observations to help make local problems visible.
